Emily Squires is our first TANG TAKEOVER ARTIST! Like a sort of digital residency, each TTA is given the chance to utilize the format of Uncompromising Tang over the course of an entire month. With help from our staff, each artist may generate either a new project exclusive to the site, or reconstitute a successful past project for a different and more expansive audience. The resulting work runs parallel to our other content, in this case, publishing every Monday, Wednesday and Friday for the next four weeks.
Emily Squires, who received her MFA from Washington University in St. Louis in 2012, lives and works in Portland, OR, USA. Dedicated to exploring a myriad of themes in her work–which spans the gamut of printmaking, sculpture, appropriation, political activism, and social practice–Squires is known for engaging and generating collaborative creative communities. Aways effecting change, Squires work is celebrated for it’s optimism and conceptual rigor. Personal Service Announcement, the project we will feature on Uncompromising Tang beginning on Monday, has been highlighted by, among others, The Huffington Post and ArtWrit. We present it here and on our Twitter simultaneously, with pleasure and excitement. Stay tuned//
Between October 1, 2012 and January 1, 2013, members of the public could submit a message via this page. Emily Squires transferred each message onto a sign. In three separate performances, she marched the signs in front of the North gate of the White House in Washington, D.C.
